Ripley FC 2 NEWMOUNT 3 AFTER a 2-1 win in midweek at Sandiacre Town, Ripley were once again unable to follow it up with a win last Saturday.
Ripley were a goal down in under a minute as a mistake in defence allowed Newmount to take the lead.
From then on there was only one team in it but Ripley squandered their chances until a rebound from a Kev Rowles shot was converted by JON POPLAR. Ripley kept dominating and took a half time lead when KEV ROWLES drove home at the end of a great solo run.
The second half saw Ripley begin slowly, allowing Newmount back into the game and it wasn't long before they drew level with a good cross in from the right volleyed home by the centre forward.
Ripley once again were in control of the game but were denied retaking the lead by some great goalkeeping and more missed chances. With two minutes left Ripley looked like they were going to have to settle for a point when a short back pass by Mark Walker left keeper Ryan Steeples with no choice but to concede a penalty. Luckily Steeples only received a yellow card but he was unable to save the spot kick with the last kick of the game and the visitors took all three points.
Ripley: Ryan Steeples, Adam Taylor, Chris Green, Joe Sparham, Joz Walker, Dan Cummings, Darren Turner, Jon Poplar, Richard Searston, Adam Nicholls, Kev Rowles.Subs: Kyle Wadsworth, Tom Yates, Mark Walker.
Man of the match: Darren Turner.
Division One
CASTLE DONINGTON TOWN 5 HEANOR COLLIERS 2 COLLIERS were taught a harsh lesson in ‘togetherness’ as a few ego’s took a knock in this heavy defeat last Saturday.
The hosts looked the liveier from the off although Goode failed tot ake advantage wide on the right after the custodian left his area. Following a corner on 15 minutes the ball eventually came out to CORY BOWLER who, from an angle, hit the goal of the game from 30-yards.
The ball seemed to be travelling quicker when hitting the net than when leaving the foot but less than 20 seconds later Donington were level when Archbold was unable to prevent a home forward from steering the ball past Baker from close range. Donington were quicker to the ball and in most cases stronger and Baker had his busiest game of the season. On 19 minutes Colliers regained the lead after good work from Brittle and Bowler gave Goode a chance but the keeper parried the ball into the path of CRAIG CHARITY who blasted home from eight yards.
Scarle hit the bar and he continued to have a fine game despite what followed. On the half hour the hosts scored again when the Colliers defence got themselves in all sorts of trouble and the rest of the half belonged to the hosts.
Colliers initially started the second half looking a little sharper but misplaced passes didn’t help their cause and after Archbold failed to catch a forward offside, another easy goal for Donington followed with Baker beaten with ease. Colliers heads dropped and it got worse despite Scuffins replacing Brittle, the home keeper became unemployed and the writing was on the wall. With 20 minutes left Thomson replaced Longdon and Bowler produced an excellent cross for Charity but he headed the wrong side of a post. With 16 minutes left Thomson lost the ball in the area to give the hosts another simple goal and wrap the game up. There was still time for Baker to make an error of judgement to concede another goal not before Charity had been replaced by John Holdstock.
Colliers: Baker (5), Longdon (5), Scarle (6), Archbold (5), Clarence (6), S Holdstock (4), Boxall (5), Bowler (6), Charity (6), Goode (3). Subs used: Thomson (4) Scuffins (5) J Holdstock (5).
Man of the match: Darren Scarle.
